'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort from outside the box, and the defender quickly slammed home the deflection before charging toward the crowd to celebrate, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an incredible recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. In the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right flank after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in south Wales. At the London club he reunited with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without much intensity. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for club and country, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away fixtures against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the local area in his hometown, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

The player's single match for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the lads but I'm aiming to be the next one to stop using the bus and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on the Tube after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
