2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a distinct direction.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
The news follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete text from the president's communication:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.
The belief in this project strengthens every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His leadership and background in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having devoted the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all excited to keep observing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.
The President
